Design

“ When one tugs at a single thing in nature, he finds it attached to the rest of the world. “ - John Muir

Creative design is key in developing rich environments. Our commitment to best practice education and the restoration of ecosystems within the urban landscape, informs our design method and approach.

Collaboration and consultation with each community enables us to develop bespoke designs and build elements which celebrate and connect people and place.

Our designs combine natural landscaping including Indigenous and productive planting schemes, with open-ended and dynamic play elements, to create diverse opportunities for children to play, rest and learn. Together.

We offer a range of flexible design, construction and consultation options which support each project from idea to completion.

Design options include:

  • Concept design for preliminary project discussions, display purposes and grant applications

  • Masterplan development including detailed design drawings and specifications

  • Consultation and collaboration with stakeholders, teachers, children, parent committees, Indigenous communities, local councils

Accessibility and inclusiveness for children is always a priority and is complemented with therapeutic and sustainable design principles which support childhood health, development and learning goals.

Consultation and collaboration enriches every project.

With educators, we will identify key service aspirations through a process of inquiry and together create a design that is uniquely suited to the values, goals and philosophy of the service.

Often the most valuable insights and ideas for the Children’s Garden come directly from the children. Inclusion of the child’s voice is an essential consideration in every design.
The Habitat Discovery Project is an optional component of our work which deeply engages children in the design process through a series of incursions and creative activities with our education and design specialists.

Our approach is to first identify opportunities within each phase of the project for consultation and collaboration with those who will be using the spaces we create. We seek advice from children, families, staff, Indigenous community members and any others as appropriate and incorporate these ideas within the design.

Sustainable solutions are key in our decision making. A thorough analysis of existing infrastructure, vegetation and assets inform our process. Investigation of the landscape as it currently exists and also in its original form enables us to design solutions to perceived problems, such as water management, within the site.

Design considerations include the specific landscape and ecosystem of the location and its surrounds in order to restore function wherever possible.

Each design truly reflects the organisation and its community.

Whatever ideas, hopes or plans you have for creating immersive play environments for children, we can help . We would love to hear from you.
